Another Day, Another Steel Crisis
Only 2 years ago, American companies manufacturing products of steel were subjected to one of the largest trade tariffs ever placed on steel. And only 5 months ago, we were celebrating the repeal of those tariffs. However, without any warning, in December 2003, steel prices began to soar and availability became scarce. Within one week, our cost of steel rose more then 30%, and within the next 3 weeks, steel prices increased 66%. As a manufacturer of all-steel-containers, our customers are aware of a steel crisis, but unaware of the actual effect on their prices. On a good note, sources tell us that there should be some stabilization occurring by summer. We hope to see prices diminish and supply strengthen. Till then, please bear with us if a price needs to be adjusted.
