For the past 8 years, Chicago based Labelmaster has sponsored the Dangerous Goods Instructors Symposium (DGIS). DGIS (pronounced Dee-Gis) is an annual grouping of the dangerous goods / hazmat community to learn about dangerous goods issues, review events, evaluate teaching skills and network with other business and regulatory folks who’s job is to make the world of dangerous goods safer. We spent 4 days in Louisville, KY with more than 150 attendees from all over the world. Presentations covered international developments, core knowledge development, issues in regulation and brainstorming strategies and solutions. There were several interactive workshops, including one on web traffic development, a review of Class 7 radioactives, and a review of trainers working with air mode compliance.

A highlight of the event was the midnight tour of the UPS Worldport facility in Louisville, KY. Every night starting at 11:30pm, 107 planes land, 416,000 packages per hour are destination-sorted, the planes are reloaded, and fly out within 3-4 hours. There are over 6,000 employees on this shift which sits on 644 acres with 5Mil square feet of operational space. Pretty amazing! Click here to see photos from the tour.

Thank you Labelmaster! Looking forward to DGIS #9!
