Skolnik steel drums are useful in the packaging, distribution, and disposal of refrigerant coolants that are harmful to our environment when not maintained properly. Though many chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) have recently been phased out of refrigeration production and have been replaced by hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which have a smaller impact on the ozone layer, they still may be present in refrigerators that are being discarded. However with each chemical there are still many risks associated with their management when released into the environment; these risks can be diminished with the Skolnik steel drum.
