Are they ‘Hazardous Materials’ or ‘Dangerous Goods?’ Shippers, consignees and transporters are starting to see the phrase ‘Dangerous Goods’ being used in place of Hazardous Materials. While both phrases are essentially the same, Hazardous Materials is used within the United States and is the phrase specified in the Code of the Federal Register (CFR). Outside the US, Dangerous Goods is the proper term. Depending on the route and destination of your shipments, be sure that you are using the correct phrase to denote the contents.
