A new global labeling system was recently adopted by UN Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, and the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (CETDG/GHS). The new system is designed to better protect people from the mismanagement of chemicals (by classification according to each hazard) and creating universally understandable pictograms. From production to handling, transport and use, chemicals are a real danger for human health and the environment. People of all ages, all languages, and extreme social conditions are confronted with dangerous products almost daily. By far, the youngest, poorest, and least educated are the most vulnerable. The new scheme will harmonize existing communication systems to develop a single, globally harmonized system to address classification of chemicals, labels, and safety data sheets.
