Shippers of hazardous and dangerous goods must work in conjunction with the carriers of hazardous and dangerous goods in order to meet the new requirements of 172.802(a)(3) of the Hazardous Materials Regulations. This regulation states that shippers and carriers must determine the best method for addressing en route security, including risks related to in-transit storage. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has a web site that can assist persons in complying with the new security regulations. The site address is: https://www.phmsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/172.802. In addition, for compliance with 172.704(a)(4), DOT has a CD that can be used to satisfy the security awareness training requirements. The CD can be ordered on line or by calling the Office of Hazardous Materials Training and Initiatives at 202.366.4900.
