Recently, one of our wine-manufacturing customers contacted us to inquire about the possibility of moving or reducing the number of rolling hoops in the side of our wine barrels. Skolnik manufacturers wine barrels from 5 to 55 US gallon capacities, but the 55 gallon is, by far, the most sought after. As the manufacturing process does offer flexibility, we were able to accommodate the requests of this customer with either off-set hoops or removing them completely. It appears that he was utilizing a racking system in which the conventional hoop configurations did not fit the horizontal contour. While we believe that using the conventional hoop locations does yield the greatest variety of rack usage, we were glad that a simple alteration was able to resolve our customers‘ processing problem.
