As to carrying chemical samples onto an airplane, either in carry-on or checked baggage we say FORGET IT. Typically, they‘re not packaged well enough, and if the sample contains a material that’s regulated for air shipment, in the best case, you could be arrested and heavily fined for carrying concealed dangerous goods. The worst case is the cause of an airline disaster. If found, the FAA will take the attitude that what you‘ve done was done with criminal intent and the penalties are enormous. Alternatively, one should have the packages prepared by dangerous goods professionals who have been trained, and can arrange to have the packages shipped to arrive at a destination when you arrive.
