The Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) has released a draft of Safety Standard CAN/CGSB-43.150 for public consultation.
- This standard, incorporated by reference within the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations, sets forth the design, manufacturing, and usage guidelines for packaging used to transport dangerous goods such as drums, jerricans, boxes, and composite packaging.
- The new edition of the standard will come into effect following a six-month phase-in period once finalized.
The draft includes significant updates, including the alignment of requirements with the 23rd edition of the UN Recommendations and the incorporation of CAN/CGSB-43.126, which covers the reconditioning and repair of drums for dangerous goods transport.
What’s next: Interested parties, especially those involved in the design or use of dangerous goods packaging, are encouraged to participate in the 60-day consultation. Comments can be submitted by contacting Beata Hart at CGSB, following specific submission guidelines.
