The Research and Special Projects Administration within the DOT has finally completed the long awaited harmonization of radioactive material regulations. Effective October 1st, 2004, HM-230 provides for US regulations for radioactives to be compliant with the international standards per the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency). The revisions were also coordinated with the NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission). The newly adopted compliance allows for a 4-year period at which time compliance to the IAEA will be required for all radioactive packagings.
