Consistent with the ongoing enforcement against non-compliant transport of hazardous materials, the Federal Aviation Administration is levying single fines in excess of $50,000 to companies that improperly ship hazardous materials. Though many shippers are mistakenly aware of the dangers of their products, some of the most common non-compliant products sent via air in 2002 included disinfectants, paints, hair spray, liquid accelerators, primers, mercury, aerosols, adhesives, alcohols, butane, glues, a fuse igniter, batteries, glycol, and many more similar products. In addition, fuel pumps that had previously contained fuel were also cited for not being purged of residue liquids and fumes. We urge our customers to verify content classifications and packaging compliance as part of the preparation for shipping.
