Every year that we attend the Wine and Grape Symposium held in Sacramento, we are always impressed by a few new products that are introduced at the show. Several years ago, a controversial screw cap that many said would never replace the cork left quite an impression. This year, we saw screw caps being used on some of the best wines that are made. Another product at this year’s show that really caught our eye was the Tetra Pak. Many of you may be familiar with the Tetra Pak, having seen it on your grocery store shelf containing juice, soup or tomatoes. However, the Tetra Pak is now being used more and more for wine, replacing the ever present glass bottle. Skeptics abound, but the convenience factor along with the environmental benefits will soon have consumers seeing an increasing number of these types of packages at their local wine shops. Made primarily of paper, the Tetra Pak is 100% recyclable and costs less to ship than a standard wine bottle. Of course, we can’t help but draw parallels between the Tetra Pak and our own product, the stainless steel wine drum. Once considered unconventional, today our stainless steel wine barrels are being used globally by some of the best wineries in the world. Not only is it user friendly, the stainless steel wine barrel is re-usable and 100% recyclable!
