Monitor recent Department of Transportation Hazmat fines, and you will see that there is a significant trend in the notifications of probable violation. Specifically, companies and organizations that are required by CFR 172.700 to Hazmat-train their employees are being cited for non-compliance with required training. Recent publication shows that DOT has a number of fines for: packagings that were not closed in accordance with the manufacturer‘s closure instructions (CFR 178.2(c)); allowing an employee to perform functions prior to the completion of hazardous material training; and for safety training not being conducted and records were not maintained. If you want help in determining if your company could be subject to such training requirements, contact your local DOT agency, go to www.dot.gov, or call me at 1773-362-1940 and I will help you find the right answer.
