In a recent editorial profile in Hazardous Cargo Bulletin, I was interviewed about many facets of the future with regard to steel drums, dangerous goods and Skolnik Industries. I would like to restate a portion of the article that I believe is critical to the safety of our customers. "The company President, Howard Skolnik, stresses the importance of recognizing the real function of each package design and promoting it to the right customer for the right movement. Like putting the proverbial square peg into a round hole, steel containers may not be the right choice for all movements so Skolnik focuses on making sure that the selected package meets the customer‘s requirements for the content’s potential risk, method of transport and regulatory exposure." With increased haz-mat exposure, DOT fines and the high cost of incident remediation, it is critical that you not make a purchase decision based only on the low-cost option. A short term cost saving could end up with long-term liabilities.
