Stemming from our expertise in steel drum manufacturing, the expansion of our stainless steel wine barrel applications requires that we be knowledgeable about, and up to date with, particular winemaking methods. Therefore, this past March, in collaboration with Las Positas College in Livermore, CA, Jason Snow (Skolnik’s Director of Wine Sales) and Dean Ricker (Skolnik’s VP of Sales), were hosted by David Everett, faculty member of Viticulture and Winery Technology. David provided an in-depth education on current trends in winemaking technology. David also displayed Las Positas’ new and impressive organic hillside vineyards, as well as the work room. The information presented was impressive and helpful to Jason and Dean in examining aspects of the winemaking processes, including packaging, that were new and in some cases, unresolved. Even more impressive was seeing the Skolnik stainless steel wine barrels in actual use in the classroom. Clearly, up and coming winemakers are validating the benefits of processing wine in stainless barrels, and at Las Positas, we were happy to have the opportunity to learn valuable wine making techniques using our stainless steel wine barrels. In thanks, Skolnik provided several sizes and styles of our stainless steel wine barrels to Las Positas to use in future research.
