Over five days in June 2025, commercial vehicle inspectors across the U.S. and Canada conducted 4,629 inspections of trucks carrying hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
By the numbers: The initiative, held June 9–13, resulted in 831 vehicles earning CVSA decals for clean inspections, indicating no critical safety or cargo tank specification violations. However, inspectors also uncovered 1,169 hazmat/dangerous goods violations, more than half of which — 598 total — were serious enough to place vehicles out of service until corrected.
The blitz involved 45 jurisdictions—ten Canadian provinces and thirty-five U.S. states—and covered both bulk and non-bulk packaging. Inspectors checked for leaks, securement, accurate placarding and labeling, compliant shipping papers, and proper loading procedures.
The CVSA emphasized that transporting hazardous materials demands rigorous training and strict regulatory compliance to protect drivers, the public, and the environment. The results serve as a reminder that attention to detail remains critical in every step of hazardous materials transport.
